Race and Religion

Prayer_smlWith the recent terror attacks, the rise of the BNP and the the division between the 'Black' community - we look at the reasons for this. We also look at the differences between Race and Religion as there recently seems to be a cross over of the terms.

Supatrax googled the differences between Race and Religion - Below are some of the quotes we found:

  • Race is skin pigment color and people can be any religion despite race.
  • A race can be people of any skin colour with an unique language or national identity.
A religion can be shared by people of any nationality.
  • The way how they look. Religion comes in many ways.
  • Being Asian is not a religion.
  • Scientologists are not a race.

The BNP was on BBC Question Time recently given it's popularity and rise in votes. This is alarming, as people are taking racist views on subjects they are unclear about, but they follow the media hype that they read and watch everyday.

The BNP and the National Front rose in the 80's due to the hatred people had for another's race - Now a days it's based on a persons religion and race. People are making mass assumptions that all Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi and other Asian communities are Muslims. With this being said there seems to be a low tolerance in the UK for the religion following extremist attacks.

The media has a responsibility to report stories in the correct manner and not with the provocative headlines like 'Race Riots' and the anti-Islamic headlines and reporting of stories we see everyday in the press and on the tv.

People need to realise that being a Muslim doesn't make you Asian. Being a Muslim doesn't make you an extremist. Being a Muslim doesn't make you any less British than a white Christian. Asian is not a race - Asians are Black.

In a discussion with a group of young people recently, one said: "I'm a British citizen, my nationality is Jamaican - and I live in England. I'm proud of my Black culture and history."
